LABU LCCT

The proposal by Sime Darby Berhad and AirAsia to build a new terminal at Labu, 50km from Kuala Lumpur and 18km from KLIA(mean near KLIA) is a reflection of the failure of the authorities to plan, and plan well. It is not surprising that the Cabinet endorsed the plan for to build a new terminal to cater to AirAsia and AirAsia X operations.

The question is why Labu...

While it is a known fact that the existing LCCT in Sepang was just a temporary facility and will be replaced in 2010, many were expecting the new permanent budget terminal to be nearer to the KL International Airport's (KLIA) satellite and main terminal buildings, or at the very least within the 10,500ha designated for KLIA.

In fact, airport operator Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) had announced as early as February last year that it had earmarked a site next to the KLIA satellite and main terminal buildings for a permanent LCCT with a capacity to handle 25 million passengers a year.

The decision to build a new LCCT at Labu is so wrong on so many counts that it bewilders one's mind as to how the government ministers arrive at such a decision in such haste. Is there no real concern and care for the nation at all?

Please stop this nonsense, too many airports...Brigitte
